It is the longest running peacekeeping mission and the mandate was adjusted twice, due to the second Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and the 2006 Lebanon War. As well as extend its assistance to help ensure humanitarian access to civilian populations and the voluntary and safe return of displaced persons.
